Richard Lloyd Sherman

In addition to his current responsibilities as the Managing Partner of Sherman Law Group in Beverly Hills, Richard Lloyd Sherman heads the California office of Rubinton & Laufer, P.A. He practices in the area of litigation on behalf of insurance companies and self-insured entities.  Mr. Sherman has handled the defense in multiple areas of the law on behalf of multiple carriers and companies, and his specific litigation experience includes professional liability, construction defects, property damage, personal injury, and sports and entertainment.

Mr. Sherman was admitted to the State Bar of California in 1982, where he began his career at one of the premier defense firms in California.  He has also been admitted to practice in the United States Court of Appeals, Ninth Circuit; the United States District Courts for the Central, Northern, Southern, and Eastern Districts of California; the Southern District of Texas; and the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands (1993).  He is a member of the Los Angeles County and Beverly Hills Bar Associations, and is currently awaiting admission to the State Bar of Texas.  In addition to his experience in California, Mr. Sherman has handled cases throughout the United States (New York, Texas, and Florida), US Territories (Saipan, Guam) and around the world (Japan, China, and Israel).

Mr. Sherman received a B.A. from the University of Southern California, where he was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa and Phi Kappa Phi, and served as Chief Justice of the USC Judicial Council. He received his J.D. from the University of California School of Law at Los Angeles (UCLA) in 1982, where he served as a member of the UCLA-Alaska Law Review and participated in the UCLA Moot Court Honors Program.

Mr. Sherman currently holds an “AV” rating from Martindale-Hubble for outstanding legal ability and professional ethics.  Mr. Sherman has also been lead trial counsel in such highly publicized cases of trial record, starting with a three-week jury trial against Death Row records and Suge Knight, which resulted in a jury verdict of $14,000,000, the 8th largest punitive damages award in California in 2000 (Brumfield v. Brown, 2000). Mr. Sherman’s legal career has produced numerous other notable cases including: Davidov Co. v. Issod, (2000), creating new law on punitive damages; and Marra v. Mission Foods, (1993), establishing new law for delay of prosecution cases.
